A Residential Therapeutic Community for 16-25 year olds with drug/alcohol problems and addictive behaviour.

Transitions is about treatment of the whole person so our programme is emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual, incorporating some of the leading innovative psychological approaches to addiction treatment.

Ethos

Programme

The Transitions programme is progressive, responsive and abstinence-based, offering the equivalent of adult primary and secondary stage rehabilitation, with provision for moving on support including exploring the potential for reintegration with the family unit.

Transitions is about holistic transformation and growth of the individual using a bio-psycho-socio-spiritual model.  We seek to enhance this through relationships and settings both within and beyond the immediate Transitions community.

Transitions is an organisation with a Christian ethos and our programme has some Christian elements.  People do not have to be Christians to become part of Transitions and nobody will ever be forced to accept the Christian faith.

Potential residents will need to complete any necessary detoxification programme before being given a place at Transitions RTC.

Stages

  • The initial induction phase takes 2 weeks
  • Second phase lasts 6-12 months
  • Third phase/moving on is 1-3 months
  • Aftercare continues beyond the third phase

Content

Transitions RTC offers an evidence-based programme focussing on emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual growth.  Incorporating some of the leading innovative approaches to treatment, the programme aims to build recovery capital and involves the cultivation of character strengths and virtues (rooted in positive psychology), as well as developing spiritual intelligence (read more about the evidence-base)

Activities

Young adults who join our Residential Therapeutic Community will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities as part of Transitions’ holistic programme – from creative activities like art and music, to work experience; and from counselling / therapy to sport.  There will be opportunities to develop basic literacy and numeracy skills as well as explore a sense of vocation and Christian spirituality.  All residents will develop life skills including learning to cook and taking part in communal meals.

Transitions RTC will work in partnership with education/training providers and employers to offer courses, qualifications and apprenticeships in a variety of areas from mechanics to farming.
